About Big Barn Bar-B-Que:

The Building At 8021 Main Street Has A Long History in the Development of the Town of Smithfield. It Existed As A Wooden Building in the Late 1890's To Serve As A General Store, Pharmacy and Doctor's Office. All of Downtown Smithfield's Buildings Were Wooden Structures and the Entire Town Burned in the Early 1900's. John T. Overbey (1859-1927) Built the Present Building Using Thick Paving Brick Walls To Make It More Fire Resistant. Mr. Overbey Opened the Business As A General Store, But Passed Away in 1927. Isaac C. "cap" Snider and His Wife Lillie Mae "missus" Snider Bought the Property in 1928 and Continued the Business As A General Store, Stocking Groceries, Dry Goods, Hardware, Feed and A Pharmacy. "cap" Had Previously Owned A Grocery in North Fort Worth and Moved His Family To Smithfield To Avoid Some of the "wild West" Atmosphere of the Early Stockyard Days. the Store Functioned As A Meeting Place for the Community for Many Years- At One Point Housing the Post Office and Having One of the First Telephones in the Town That Had Dial "9" Capabilities the Building At 8021 Main Street Has A Long History in the Development of the Town of Smithfield.
